Art Bogan
Assistant Coach
Art Bogan joins the TSU women’s basketball staff after previously serving as head coach at Casady School in Oklahoma, City, Okla. for three seasons.
"Coach Bogan brings a wealth of experience from various levels,” said Skeete. “Coach Bogan is a true student of the game and expert scouter. His excitement and work ethic will help our front court propel to higher heights."
While head coach at Casady, Bogan led the girl’s program to a Southwest Preparatory Conference Championship during the 2020-21 season. Before Casady, he spent one season as an assistant coach at Edmond North. During his lone season at Edmond North, he helped guide the team to its first Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) Class 6A State Championship as his main responsibilities were skill development for the team’s guards.
Prior to Edmond North, Bogan was an assistant men’s basketball coach at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Okla. While at SNU, Bogan was responsible for organizing and executing the team’s skill development program throughout the year, He also was in charge of the team’s defensive scouts, strength and conditioning in addition to serving as recruiting and video coordinator. During his time at SNU, he helped the program achieve a No. 2 ranking in the NAIA Coaches Poll and was a part of a coaching staff which became the fastest staff to reach 50 wins in program history.
Before arriving at SNU, Bogan was an assistant coach at Chipola College in Mariana, Fla. During his time at Chipola, he helped guide the program through a dominant stretch of record-winning seasons for three straight years.
In his three seasons at Chipola, the team finished with a 98-9 overall record, which also included a NJCAA National Tournament Runner-up appearance and a pair of Panhandle Conference Titles. He also specialized in the development of the team’s forwards and centers along with developing and maintaining the team’s strength and conditioning regiment and opponent scouts.
Bogan started his career as an assistant coach at Seminole State College in Seminole, Okla. in 2003. During his two years at Seminole State, he helped guide them to an eighth-place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament which was the team’s first appearance in 17 years. Bogan served as Seminole’s position coach for forwards and centers while assisting with opponent scouting and weight training.
Before joining the coaching ranks, Bogan was a successful player in the state of Alabama at both Wallace State Community College and the University of Montevallo, where he earned a bachelor’s in kinesiology. During his freshman season at Wallace State, Bogan helped guide his team to a Region 22 runner-up finish. The Birmingham, Ala., native spent his high school days playing basketball at Phillips High where helped them to a runner-up finish at the state tournament as a senior co-captain.
Bogan and his wife Tanya, has two sons, AJ and Joshua.
Mercedes Brooks
Assistant Coach
Mercedes Brooks begins her first season as TSU women's basketball assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Prior to TSU, Brooks served as an assistant coach at Panola College in Carthage, Texas where she helped the team compile a 21-8 record along with a top 25 national ranking throughout the season. Prior to Panola, Brooks spent the 2019-20 season at The Emery Weiner School in Houston as the school's head coach. She made history at the school by leading the program to its best finish in school history along with its first-ever playoff berth,
A native of Wichita Falls, Texas, Brooks was a three-time all-state performer at Rider High School and was a McDonald's All-American nominee after averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds per game. She earned a scholarship to Kansas State of the Big 12 and earned the team's Leadership Award.
Following her freshman year, Brooks transferred to Trinity Valley Community College where she played under Gerald Ewing during the 2017-18 season. Brooks had a standout career at TVCC as she averaged 17 points and eight rebounds per contest while leading the Cardinals to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament where they finished the season as the National runner-up. Brooks
earned All-Tournament honors at nationals and also received a Leadership Award at the end of the season.
Brooks earned a scholarship to LSU following her career at TVCC and spent two years under head coach Nikki Fargas. She earned the Hard Hat award during the SEC Tournament which was presented to the player which showcased the biggest impact on the floor. Brooks was also a standout performer in the classroom as she earned the 3.0 GPA and above award for two years while also earning a spot in the Phi Sigma Theta National Honor Society.
Brooks' most notable characteristic is her energy and knowledge of player development. She has always been known for her energy that she's able to bring every day.

Darryl Brown
Assistant Coach
Darryl Brown joins the TSU women's basketball staff for his first season and brings a wealth of experience as both a head and assistant coach.
Brown's career includes his time at the University of Memphis as an Associate Head Coach where he helped lead the Tigers to their best record in American Athletic Conference play and a berth in the NIT.
In his two seasons at Cleveland State, Brown helped the Vikings move up in the Horizon League. He helped the Vikings post a combined 33-29 overall record, 19-13 conference mark and two top-five finishes in the Horizon League regular season. With Brown on staff, Cleveland State had four postseason award recipients and in his second year earned a trip to the National Invitation Tournament.
Prior to moving to Cleveland State, Brown spent five seasons (2008-13) at Pepperdine. Brown helped Pepperdine climb back to the top third of the West Coast Conference. Brown helped Pepperdine to three winning seasons and two postseason berths. Among those three winning seasons was the program's first 20-win campaign (2009-10; 20-12 record) since 2002-03. The Waves also posted three-straight years with nine or more conference wins from 2008-09 to 2010-11. The last time Pepperdine had a longer streak of nine or more conference wins was from 1997-98 through 2003-04 (seven seasons).
Pepperdine had three-straight seasons with a top-three finish in the WCC regular season from 2008-09 to 2010-11. In that three-year run, the Waves also advanced to the 2010 WCC Championship title game and earned 2010 and 2011 WNIT berths.
In addition to the team's success, Brown helped in the development of the Waves' players. Brown had three players earn WCC postseason honors a total of six times and also had two players to play in the professional ranks. He also played a major role in Pepperdine's 2012 recruiting class that ESPN.com ranked No. 1 among mid-majors in the West and No. 7 among the mid-majors nationally.
Prior to Pepperdine, Brown spent four seasons at Cheyney University, an NCAA Division II school located in Cheyney, Pa., from 2004-08. Brown served as a Wolves assistant coach his first two seasons, and in 2006-07, was elevated to the program's interim head coach. He assumed the head coach title in 2007-08.
Brown helped engineer an amazing turnaround. After consecutive 20-loss seasons, Brown guided Cheyney to an 11-18 overall record and a 7-5 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) mark in 2007-08. The 11-18 overall record was the program's best ledger in 18 years. The 7-5 league record earned the Wolves a third-place finish in the PSAC East Division, and the squad qualified for the PSAC playoffs for the first time since 1989-90. Brown's team also achieved a team grade point average over 3.0. At the conclusion of the 2007-08 campaign Brown was voted by his peers as the PSAC East Coach of the Year.
Brown is a graduate of Temple University with a degree in marketing.Brown is married to the former Tasha McDowell, who is an assistant coach for the UCLA women's basketball program. The couple married in August of 2015.
Taylor Hawkins
Director of Operations
Taylor Hawkins joins the TSU women’s basketball staff as the team’s Director of Operations.
Hawkins recently spent three years at Westcliff University in Irvine, Calif. as both an Assistant Athletic Director and Assistant Women’s Basketball coach/player development. As the Assistant AD of Student Life, Hawkins played an integral role in the daily operations of the athletic department while also in charge of creating and implementing marketing plans for student-athlete involvement. She also participated in fundraising endeavors for the department while working in game operations.
Prior to moving over to the administrative side, Hawkins spent the 2019-20 campaign as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball program. In addition to her on-court duties, Hawkins was tasked with monitoring the team’s academics, team travel, community outreach and social media coordination.
Before her move to the West Coast, Hawkins started her coaching career at Central Wyoming College as an assistant women’s basketball coach. Her duties included weight room and individual workout duties, scouting and social media planning.
Hawkins began her collegiate career at Vincennes University in Vincennes, Ind. before transferring to Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. At Wiley, Hawkins was one of the top shot blockers in NAIA during her junior season as she was a two-year starter.
A native of Sacramento, Calif., Hawkins graduated with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies - Child Development in 2018 and is currently working on her MBA in Marketing.
Dominique Phillips
Executive Assistant
